HAUCK Patent- und Rechtsanwälte in Hamburg is looking to expand our team: You will take on responsibility in national and international IP proceedings and serve as a central liaison between our patent attorneys, clients, foreign associates, and the relevant offices.

We are a patent law firm in Hamburg that has been advising national and international clients in intellectual property matters for over 75 years. Through a network of personally known partner firms, we support our clients worldwide, often over the course of decades. To provide long-term support to our team of seven patent attorneys, three lawyers, and specialized paralegals, we are looking for a dedicated Team Assistant – Intellectual Property (m/f/d), full-time or part-time, to join us at the earliest possible date.

Your Responsibilities

You will communicate with clients, offices, courts, and foreign and domestic associates. You will independently handle cases in national and international patent and design proceedings and support our patent attorneys across the full spectrum of intellectual property work. In addition, you will monitor deadlines and incoming correspondence and maintain electronic case files.

Your Profile

You hold a completed vocational qualification as a patent law clerk or legal assistant. Alternatively, you have completed training in a field such as office management, foreign language correspondence, or a comparable commercial profession and have already gained professional experience in intellectual property. You work carefully, in a structured manner, and independently, and you possess very good German skills as well as good English skills. The ability to work in a team, reliability, openness to digital workflows, and an interest in continuously improving processes rounds up your profile.

Our team of ten qualified professionals — patent attorneys and lawyers with a range of technical and legal specialisations — advises mid-sized companies, family businesses, universities, and start-ups as well as international corporations, often over decades and in a relationship of mutual trust and respect.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Patent Attorney Candidate (m/f/d) to join us at the earliest possible date.

Your Responsibilities

From the outset, you will actively participate in the day-to-day work of the firm and gradually take on independent responsibility:

• Drafting patent applications in your technical field at the national and international level (DPMA, EPO, PCT)
• Supporting patent, opposition, and appeal proceedings before the DPMA and the European Patent Office
• Conducting and analysing prior art searches and assessing IP positions
• Assisting with freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses as well as IP counselling for our clients
• Close collaboration with our patent attorneys and direct client contact

Your Profile

• A completed university degree (Diplom or Master's) in a technical or scientific discipline — e.g. physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, materials science, process engineering, or a related field
• Initial practical experience through internships, working student positions, industry employment, or research projects is welcome but not required
• Analytical thinking and an enjoyment of articulating technical subject matter clearly and precisely
• Very good German and good English skills, both written and spoken
• An interest in legal questions and a willingness to complete the demanding training to become a patent attorney (approx. 3–4 years)
• The ability to work in a team, personal initiative, and a conscientious working style
